Volunteers - “Archive Angels”

Since 1957, the Society’s Heritage Advisor, Gerry Boyce, has been contributing to the work of the Archives and in recent years has led volunteers in weekly workshops.

Since her appointment in 2010 as the archivist for Hastings County, the City of Belleville and the Society, Sharon White has been providing guidance for the work of the volunteers at the Heritage Centre.

Special projects for 2011 include moving the catalogues to a computer database, starting a digitization program to provide digital images of selected photographs, and preparing for the move to the new Community Archives in downtown Belleville.

New volunteers are always welcome - whatever your interests!

If you would like to volunteer to work on one of our special projects
or help with the day-to-day activities, please contact the Heritage Centre.

The team of volunteers known as the “Archive Angels” play a key role in operating the Society’s archives.  They catalogue and preserve the archival collections and respond to enquires from researchers.

The volunteers have a great collective knowledge of the history of Hastings County and understanding of the archival collections.  In addition to other work, many actively research the history of Hastings County, participate in community events, provide displays and promote our heritage through educational presentations and programs.
